Schneider Electric brings unprecedented visibility and connectivity with new Acti9 Active Safety System

Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, has announced the launch of the Acti9 Active Safety System, the latest in the Acti9 range of safety system controls offering a digitally enhanced connected system with complete visibility at final distribution. The next generation of Acti9 Active, which features the hybrid Acti9 Active arc fault distribution board (AFDD), brings an innovative addition to the Acti9 Isobar P range of distribution boards, incorporating efficiency, safety, and best-in-class connectivity compliant with the latest wiring regulations BS7671 18th Edition Amendment 2. Through alarms and pre-alarms, the Acti9 Active Safety System alerts and protects against electrical faults, providing electricians with the ability to detect a fault and work efficiently and safely to fix it. The Active Safety System consists of three elements that simplify what would be a complex connected system: Acti9 Active device and Hybrid distribution board – a single 36mm device that acts as an Active all-in-one breaker offering enhanced visibility and greater protection from arc-fault related fires EcoStruxure Panel Server – the gateway allowing the connectivity down to the final circuit in the distribution board EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert – the software platform that enables electricians to easily view the information coming from the distribution board at final circuit levels Historically, energy meters were used in distribution boards to show an aggregated view of multiple circuits. However, the Acti9 Active Safety System’s total integration of circuit protection, gateway, and software mean that, for the first time, enhanced visibility is available at the final circuit level. This allows electricians to be one step ahead of the electrical system so they can proactively address potential faults and issues before they occur. Furthermore, the level of information provided by the Acti9 Active improves operational resilience and reduces overall downtime for the electrical system. By having complete visibility of what is happening within the system itself, electricians and building owners have unprecedented control, allowing them to make informed decisions to achieve their energy efficiency goals and make changes to support their sustainability journeys. Nico van der Merwe, VP Home & Distribution at Schneider Electric, said “The Acti9 Active Safety System brings unprecedented visibility and connectivity for electricians, without compromising on safety. The electrical industry is undergoing monumental changes, and this solution helps electricians to navigate the complex changes by providing a ready-made offering compliant to the latest regulations.” To learn more about the Acti9 Active Safety System, click here.

New charging stations for e-vehicles at Elsner Elektronik

At its location in Ostelsheim, the smart building specialist Elsner Elektronik provides eight new charging stations for company, employee and customer vehicles. In addition to convenient charging of electric vehicles, the aim of the expansion was above all to optimise the use of hybrid vehicles. In order to reduce CO2 emissions, the hybrids should be driven electrically as much as possible. This can now be easily achieved with daily charging. In addition to the construction work and the laying of the cables, the available power of the property’s mains connection first had to be increased. The expansion of the charging infrastructure cost a total of around €60,000, with the state of Baden-Württemberg providing €20,000 in subsidies. The Elsner vehicle fleet is now 25% hybrid and 20% pure electric. As early as 2017, Elsner Elektronik had a public charging station built on the company premises, where employees also charge their electric vehicles. However, the growing number of electrified vehicles had increasingly led to bottlenecks here. The four new charging stations now enable stress-free charging during working hours. The switch to alternative drive concepts and the provision of the appropriate charging infrastructure is part of the building technology manufacturer’s expanded sustainability strategy. The photovoltaic system on the company roof, which has been in place since 2019, will make a significant contribution to the charging current in the summer. For the purchased energy share, the company switched to green electricity from renewable sources at the beginning of 2022. Beyond such individual measures, Elsner Elektronik participates in sustainability projects such as “Klimafit” of the Calw district and has committed itself to compliance with the WIN Charter of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Since June, an environmental management system according to DIN ISO 14001 has also been introduced. Along these guidelines, Elsner Elektronik wants to continuously improve its eco-balance. Megger delivers fast, convenient checking for EV charge points

The new EVCC300 electric vehicle charger checker from Megger is a convenient and easy-to-use all-in-one tool for checking the electrical safety and correct operation of Mode 2 and single-phase Mode 3 EV charge points rated at up to 32 A. Suitable for use with the vast majority of charge points installed in domestic properties, company car parks and similar locations, the EVCC300 is completely self-contained and provides fast results that include invaluable pass/fail guidance. “With huge numbers of EV charge points already in service, and more being installed every day, we realised contractors needed a fast, easy way of checking their performance and safety,” said Paul Swinerd, Product Manager, General Electrical Test of Megger. “We have developed the EVCC300 specifically to meet this need. We believe it offers the fastest and most convenient way of checking charge points, and it’s equally suitable for rapid non-certification tests on new installations and for regular ‘health checks’ on existing points. We’re confident that users will soon wonder how they managed without it!” With a robust gun-shaped body optimised for convenient handling, this innovative new instrument offers an extensive range of operational and safety checks. Operational tests include proximity pilot (PP) and control pilot (CP) checks.
